User review:
Why are (almost) only Swedish authors capable of making movies or serials about children and/or for children? These kids always seem so real, no idealizations, no homilies, no laments… They are just like the kids we can see if we open our eyes, they are not the way most of parents expect their children to be, because such kids don’t exist, and they are not that bad most of parents fear they’ll become (and warn them all the time till they become boring, so the children don’t listen them any more) because such children don’t exist either. These Swedish kids are not Disney kids, they are not Oliver Twists, they are not Little princesses… They live in a real world, and they behave that way. Even in fairy tales (like Ronja) they still have more human characteristics than any average Hollywood kid.
There a deaf girl in this serial. And again, disability hasn’t been shown as tragic event, no one is crying and being desperate about it, nothing dramatic happens because she is handicapped and also there is no miracle to cure her just for the sake of happy-end. She lives her life as any person with such handicap would.
Anyone who likes coming-to-age movies shouldn’t miss this one. In fact, shouldn’t miss most of Swedish coming-to-age movies. Or, of course, serials (Barnen pa Luna, maybe Eva och Adam, though it’s a little to soapy, trying to compete American serials). Most of these movies and serials are real family movies, that can be watched by kids, by adults, and together, without anyone being unpleasant or bored. Only Czech, French and maybe Danish directors can get close to that.
